What Is A Toy Spoodle?
A Toy Spoodle is a cross between a Toy Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. They are one of the smallest Spoodle sizes. Toy Spoodles can either look more like a Cocker Spaniel or a Poodle depending on the generation and the percentage mix of Cocker Spaniel to Poodle. Toy Spoodles are a sweet, loving and friendly dog.
Toy Spoodles look like fluffy teddy bears with dark brown eyes and black noses. They can come in a variety of colours such as red, apricot, black and chocolate. They have dense coats that can be wavy, curly or straight. Toy Spoodles may look more like a Poodle or a Cocker Spaniel as they are a cross breed and each puppy has a unique look.

Toy Spoodle Size
Toy Spoodles are the second smallest Spoodle size. They get to a height of 25cm to 28cm at the shoulder and weigh between 3.2kg to 5.4kg. Toy Spoodles stop growing between 7 to 11 months. Usually they get to their full height around 8 months and after that continue to fill out with more muscle. Teacup Spoodles are slightly smaller than Toy Spoodles and Miniature and Maxi/Standard Spoodles are the two larger sizes.

Toy Spoodle Lifespan
Toy Spoodles live for 10 to 15 years. Their lifespan can greatly vary depending upon genetics, health conditions, lifestyle, diet etc. If you want to give your Toy Spoodle the best chance of living a long life, make sure you give them a good amount of exercise each day and feed them a healthy diet.
Toy Spoodle Temperament
Toy Spoodles have a loving, sweet and friendly temperament. They are very intelligent and eager to please which makes them quite easy to train. They are a soft and gentle dog breed that is very loving and affectionate towards their owners which is no surprise as Toy Spoodles were originally bred to be a companion dog. Are Toy Spoodles Hypoallergenic?
Toy Spoodles are hypoallergenic as they are very light shedders and do not release much allergy inducing dander (dead skin cells) into the environment when they shed. In fact, all sizes of Spoodle are hypoallergenic.
Do Toy Spoodles Shed?
Toy Spoodles are classified as light to non-shedders. They only drop a little bit of hair here and there throughout the year and do not go through heavy seasonal shedding like other breeds.
It is important to realise that there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog and that Spoodles along with other poodle mixes are the closest to this definition.
Toy Spoodle Generations
F1 Toy Spoodle
An F1 Toy Spoodle is the first generation of the breed, created by crossing a purebred Cocker Spaniel with a purebred Toy Poodle. F1 Toy Spoodles are 50% Cocker Spaniel and 50% Toy Poodle.
F1b Toy Spoodle
The “F” in F1b Spoodle means “filial”, the “1” means first generation and the “b” means back-cross. An F1b Toy Spoodle is created by crossing an F1 Toy Spoodle with a purebred Toy Poodle. The resulting dog is 25% Cocker Spaniel and 75% Toy Poodle.
F2 Toy Spoodle
An F2 Toy Spoodle is the second generation of the breed created by breeding a F1 Toy Spoodle with another F1 Toy Spoodle. They are 50% Cocker Spaniel and 50% Poodle.
Toy Spoodle Exercise Needs
As Toy Spoodles are smaller than Standard Spoodles they do not require as much exercise each day but that does not mean they don’t need anything. They are still a very energetic dog, so need between 30 minutes and an hour of exercise each day. Toy Spoodles enjoy going on walks, running and playing games. Mental exercise is also required so they don’t get bored and destructive.
Toy Spoodle Grooming
Toy Spoodles need to be groomed every 8 to 12 weeks. If you prefer that your Spoodle has a shorter coat they should to be groomed every 8 to 10 weeks. If you prefer a longer coat, they can be groomed every 10 to 12 weeks. This can be done at a professional groomer or you can learn how to cut your dog’s hair at home from watching YouTube videos and investing in a dog grooming kit.
Toy Spoodle Training
Toy Spoodles are very intelligent so they respond very well to training. You should start teaching your Toy Spoodle basic commands such as their name, sit, stay and come from the moment they arrive home. You can then progress to more difficult tricks and commands.
When training your dog it is important to use positive reinforcement techniques as dogs repeat good behaviour when it is followed by a reward such as a treat or their favorite toy. Clicker training is another type of positive reinforcement training that is a good method for learning new tricks. You use a clicker device so your dog can associate a new behaviour with a click and then a reward.
